ECR Beach Resort has about two hundred metres of the Coromandel coast to itself, forty minutes south of central Chennai on the East Coast Road. The beach is unshaded and the sea has a real undertow, so swimming is in the pool and the shore is for walking.
The 58 rooms sit in two low blocks and four cottages. Rooms are 280 square feet with a balcony, air conditioning, a fridge and a shower bathroom; the cottages add a sitting room and a private garden and are the ones families take. Sea-facing rooms carry a premium of about a thousand rupees a night.
There is a beachfront restaurant, a bar by the pool, a spa and a games room. Breakfast runs to 10:30. The resort arranges cars to Mahabalipuram, twenty-five minutes further south, and to the airport, which is about an hour away.
Practical notes: check-in from 14:00, check-out by 11:00. Cancellation is moderate: free up to 72 hours before check-in, then part of the booking is charged. Unmarried couples are welcome with valid ID. Pets are not allowed. Local photo IDs are accepted at the desk. GST of 12% is added at checkout and shown as a separate line before you pay.

Great value at this price. Hot water was instant, WiFi held up for video calls and housekeeping came by twice. The breakfast spread could use more variety. Everything worked, which is rarer than it should be.

The photos are accurate. Bathroom was modern with good pressure, and the linens were fresh. Would recommend to anyone visiting for a weekend.

Friendly staff and a genuinely comfortable room. It rained the whole weekend and the in-room dining saved us. Prices were reasonable too. The staff remembered our names by the second morning.

Beautiful property with well-kept grounds. Our room had a small balcony that made the stay. Only note is that the restaurant closes a little early. One suggestion: put a second socket by the bed.

We stayed three nights and had a lovely time. The property is quieter than the photos suggest, which suited us perfectly. Front desk arranged a cab at 5am without any fuss. Small thing, but the tea in the room was actually good.

ECR Beach Resort sits at 135, T Nagar, Chennai, T Nagar, Chennai Tamil Nadu. The easiest landmark to give a driver is Beside the T Nagar post office.
